I believe that the term survivor cannot be pin pointed down to a specific definition.
Because there are many different degrees of what a survivor can be. As there are many types and varieties of survivors like cancer survivors, war survivors, people living in poor countries with little to no food and even people who overcome even sporting injuries.
For example I would classify Turia Pitt as a survivor because she survived third degree burns from a bush fire. Turia nearly died and the doctors don't even know how she lived through it. Though she still overcame that obstacle in her life and is getting mentally and physically stronger each day.
I would also classify Michael Fanning as a survivor, Mick is a professional surfer. He was participating in a surf competition when a shark attacked him, he didn’t get bitten or injured as the shark bit his leg rope and swam away. Mick to this day is still surfing, as he has overcome the fear he gained of sharks after the attack. These are 2 different types and extremes of survival showing that the term does not have a specific definition. I believe anyone can be a survivor even if they haven’t come face to face with death.
