Anne Frank
Anne Frank was an ordinary teenager who kept a diary and wrote about her life during World War 2. When she was just a teenager she went into hiding during the holocaust. Through her journey she wrote in her diary about her experiences in life.
On June the 12th 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany Anne Frank was born. Her full name is Annelies Marie Frank. She grew up in Amsterdam with her family during World war 2. Anne was in hiding and trying to survive for 2 years from the Nazis as she was Jewish.
Her mother was Edith Frank and her father was Otto Frank, Otto was a lieutenant in the German army during World War 1 then later he became a business man. Anne also had a sister who was three years older than her named Margot. The Franks were a typical upper middle- class Jewish family living in Frankfurt.
Hitler became chancellor of Germany on the 20th of January 1933. The frank family moved to Amsterdam to flee from Hitler. Anne began going to school in Amsterdam in 1934 at the age of 5. She lived a happy and normal childhood throughout the rest of the 1930's.
On the 1st of September 1939 the Nazis invaded Poland which started World War 2. On May the 10th 1940 the Nazis invaded the Netherlands. Anne Frank knew she wasn't going to be living the normal life of an ordinary teenager. More specifically generally the typical life of a teenager is going to school and having a good time. This is highlighted in her diary when she says "After May 1940, the good times were few and far between; first there was the war, then the capitulation and then the arrival of the Germans, which is when the trouble started for the Jews." Teenagers shouldn't have to be thinking about if they will be alive tomorrow, but Anne Frank was put in this position through others decisions. This diary entry is significant because hiding for your life from an army isn't the normal life of an ordinary teenager.
The Franks went into hiding on July the 6th 1942, they were hiding in the back of Otto's business building they referred to this area as "Secret Annex". They were also hiding with Otto's business partner and his family. Anne spent 2 years inside the building never stepping out of it. I believe this proves Anne is not living a fair life. This is shown when she writes in her diary on February the 3rd 1944 "I've reached the point where I hardly care whether I live or die". I believe no one should have to live a life where they would rather be dead, this is unfair for an innocent teenage girl to be living like this. This diary entry is very important because she was a teenager when she wrote this and to not care about whether your alive or not is a very hard way to be living your life.
On August the 4th 1944 the Nazis captured everyone that was hiding in the building. They were betrayed by someone who still remains unknown. The family's were both shipped off to camp Wester Bork which is a concentration camp in the Netherlands. They arrived on the 8th of August, upon arrival the male and females were split up. They were all forced into hard labour and work, after a couple of months Anne and Margot were shipped again to the Bergen- Belson concentration camp in Germany. Edith, their mother had to stay as she fell ill and died on the 6th of January 1845. There was an awful disease called typhus that spread through the concentration camp, Anne and her sister came down with it and died a day apart in March 1945. Anne was only 15 years old when she died.
Otto Frank was the only member of the family to survive and return back to Amsterdam, just after hearing the tragic news of his family's death he found Anne's diary. Eventually he gathered himself enough to read it revealing everything he never knew about Anne. Otto published the book on June the 25th, 1947 as "The Secret Annex: Diary Letters from June 14, 1942 to August 1, 1944".
Even though Anne did die in the holocaust she still survived hiding for 2 years. Anne is a great inspiration and role model for young teenagers in society today. As she shows to not take your life for granted and enjoy living a normal teenagers life.
